April 2018 - Dinosaur Poetry

Kindergarten and 1 st  Grade Project Title:   Dinosaur Poetry Description: K-1 student artists learned the difference between an author and an illustrator.  A poem, "My Dinosaur", by David L. Harrison was read.  Each student chose one line in the poem to illustrate.  Crayon was used to outline the dinosaur themselves and additional details.  Next, watercolor painting was introduced.  Last, salt was applied to the wet dinosaurs resulting in a mottled and rough texture.  Vocabulary:  author illustrator poem texture curtsy extinct Resources: Danny and the Dinosaur  by Syd Hoff How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?  by J ane Yolen and Mark Teague Materials: crayon watercolor salt Examples of Student Artwork:

March 2018 - Painting Primary/Secondary Bubbles

Kindergarten and 1 st  Grade Project Title:   Painting Primary/Secondary Bubbles Description: K-1 student artists painted bubbles.  The objective was to overlap yellow and blue, yellow and red, and red and blue bubbles for the purposes of demonstrating color mixing of secondary colors. Once dry, water color crayons were used to fill in each bubble.  The overlapped bubbles reveal our color mixed orange, purple and green!
